Box Score The Chicago State women's tennis team took one step closer to earning a berth in the Horizon League Tournament this afternoon with a 5-2 victory at Milwaukee. The Cougars entered the day tied for fourth in the league standings along with Milwaukee and the top six teams advance to the Horizon League Tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan April 28-30. Cali Fuller team for a 6-1 win at No. 1 and
Ethel Li and
Katarina Dukic clinching the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3. In singles, the Cougars picked up the first two wins to extend the lead to 3-0 when
Sofiya Sedovich won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Manuella Eloudou earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 4. Following a Milwaukee at No. 2, Chicago State clinched the win when
Kristina Pukhaeva won in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) at No. 5.
"We really did well in doubles," head coach
Jack Barton said. "The focus was there mentally and physically. Singles was a grind and the scores are not indicative of the toughness of this Milwaukee team. Our women understand that we can't take the foot off the gas. We want to get the best seed possible if we're able to advance. The rest of the schedule will not be easy."

The Cougars will close out the 2023 regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend, April 22 and 23, hosting IUPUI Saturday and Northern Kentucky Sunday at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted Street in Chicago Heights, Illinois. In the event of inclement weather, the matches will be moved indoors, to the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club in Homewood (2920 183rd St.).
