Fresno State Shoots Way to 108-69 Victory over Chicago State

Cougars Conclude 2022-23 Season with an 11-20 Record

Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Fresno State team and lost 108-69 Saturday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno. The Bulldogs connected on 65.6 percent of their shots from beyond the three-point arc including a 10-for-11 effort from Fresno State's Jamari Baker, Jr. who finished the contest with 43 points on 13-of-14 shooting from the field, 7-for-8 from the charity stripe and added seven assists and six rebounds. Fresno State shot 63 percent in the first half which was slightly worse than the 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) they made from beyond the arc in opening up a 12-point lead and the hot shooting continued into the second half.

Three Cougars players scored in double figures, led by Ejijah Weaver who played his final collegiate game and scored 22 points. Jahsean Corbett added 19 and Wesley Cardet 10 in the loss. 

1st Half - Fresno State 51, Chicago State 38
Fresno State opened the scoring on the first offensive possession with a dunk for a quick 2-0 lead
Jahsean Corbett opened the scoring for the Cougars with a three on Chicago State's first possession and a 3-2 CSU lead
Following a Wesley Cardet block, Elijah Weaver scored to extend the lead to three, 5-2, at the 17:46 mark
The Bulldogs answered with a three to knot the score 5-5 and the back and forth scoring continued with a Corbett jumper
Fresno State then went on a 5-0 run to lead by three, 10-7, with 15:46 remaining in the first half
The Cougars scored the next five points on a Brent Davis bucket and three free throws to go up two, 12-10
Fresno State went on an 8-0 run to go up six, 18-12, at the 11:19 mark
The teams exchanged baskets for the next four minutes until Wesely Cardet and Elijah Weaver scored back-to-back baskets and Chicago State cut the lead to four, 29-25, with 7:30 remaining
Fresno State then went on a 7-3 run to go back up eight, 36-28, at the 4:34 mark
Following a Corbett layup, the Bulldogs hit back-to-back threes and their largest lead of the game, 12 points, 42-30
Bryce Johnson knocked down a pair of free throws and Jahsean Corbett converted an and-1 to cut the gap to seven, 42-35
Fresno State ended the half with a 9-3 run to go into the locker room at halftime leading 51-38

2nd Half -  Fresno State 57, Chicago State 31
Fresno State opened the second half with a 16-4 run and the lead ballooned to 25 points
Eight of Fresno State's first 10 second half field goals were from beyond the arc and the Bulldogs made 18 of 27 threes (66.7 percent) through the 12 minutes of the second stanza to build a 34-point lead to cruise to the win.
