No. 10 Gonzaga Beats Chicago State Men’s Basketball 104-65

Cougars Wrap Up 2022-23 Season Saturday at Fresno State

Box Score No. 10 Gonzaga used an 11-0 run to start the second half to extend a 14-point halftime lead to cruise to a 104-65 victory over Chicago State Wednesday at the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Washington. The Bulldogs used a pair of first-half 9-0 runs to turn back a quick Cougars offensive start. Chicago State fought back to an 11-point deficit with 1:14 remaining in the first half and had possession with under a minute to play to cut the lead to single digits but a three attempt rimmed out and Gonzaga converted a three with five seconds remaining to go up 14 at the half. Gonzaga opened the second half with an 11-0 run and a 10-0 run midway through the half put game out of reach, leading to the 39-point Gonzaga victory.

Jahsean Corbett was one of three Cougars in double figures and he led all players with 22 points. Wesley Cardet added 16 and Elijah Weaver 11.

The Cougars will conclude the 2022-23 season at Fresno State on Saturday, March 4 at 6 p.m. at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. The Bulldogs enter the week with a 10-19 record and is 6-7 at home this season and 6-12 in the Mountain West Conference. 

1st Half - Gonzaga 42, Chicago State 28
Gonzaga opened the scoring with a layup which was the start of a hot shooting start for the Bulldogs
Jahsean Corbett answered with a three for the Cougars and a 3-2 lead at the 19:04 mark
Gonzaga answered with a three but Corbett hit his second consecutive shot from beyond the arc and, following a Bulldogs two, Corbett hit a turnaround jumper, scoring Chicago State's first eight points and the Cougars led 8-7 with 17:27 remaining in the half
The Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run over the 1:50 to regain the lead and extend to 13-8
Elijah Weaver hit a three for CSU to stop the run and it was 13-11 at the 15:25 mark
The Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run over the next five minutes and doubled up Chicago State 22-11 at the 12:10 mark
Bryce Johnson stopped the run with a bucket and to cut the lead to nine, 22-13
Gonzaga extended the lead with another 9-0 run to go up 20, 33-13 at the 5:4 mark
The Cougars started hitting from three-point range as Brent Davis, Elijah Weaver and Jahean Corbett hit from distance and a late 6-0 run cut the lead to 11 with 1:14 remaining
The Cougars had possession with under a minute remaining and a chance to cut the lead to single digits, but a Weaver three rimmed out and the Bulldogs hit a three with five seconds remaining to go into the locker room at halftime leading by 14 

2nd Half - Gonzaga 62, Chicago State 37
The Cougars opened the scoring in the second half with an Elijah Weaver free throw
Gonzaga then went on a 11-0 run to go up 24, 53-29 at the 17:44 mark
The Bulldogs then went on a 14-2 run to extend the lead to 34, 71-37, with 12:53 remaining to play
