Michigan State Earns 5-2 Win Over CSU in Women’s Tennis

Back on the Court Sunday Against North Dakota and Notre Dame

Box Score The Michigan State women's tennis team pulled out a 5-2 win over Chicago State Friday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center in East Lansing, Michigan. The Spartans won at No. 2 and 3 doubles to earn the team point but the match hung in the balance in singles, with the Cougars collecting wins at No. 6 (Ethel Li) and 3 (Katarina Dukic) before Michigan State pulled out a pair of three-set matches to gain the victory.

Complete results listed below.

"I think the ladies did a marvelous job of doing all the things we practiced in singles," head coach Jack Barton said. "They played like they had nothing to lose and everything to gain. We still have to find more energy in doubles. We should come out with energy every time we play doubles. The energy in doubles is the jumpstart we need to be effective in singles. We shouldn't wait to turn the energy on in singles but I can say we are a better team now than we were on January 15th. We just have to keep the momentum going forward."

The Cougars will be back on the court next Sunday, February 19, with their third doubleheader in seven days, hosting North Dakota at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood at 10 a.m. before traveling to South Bend, Indiana to face Notre Dame at 4 p.m.
