Box Score 2 The Chicago State women's tennis team split a home and away doubleheader today, dropping a 7-0 decision to Illinois State Sunday morning at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club in Homewood, then rebounding with a dominant 7-0 victory over St. Francis at Challenge Fitness in Lockport. The Redbirds won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 3 leaving the duo of
Kristina Pukhaeva and Manuella Eloundou-Ng on the court at No. 2 tied 5-5. In singles, while ISU swept there were several tight matches including a third set at No. 1 between
Cali Fuller and Tijuana Zlatanovic. Against St. Francis, the Cougars claimed straight wins in each match with the exception of one.

"I'm encouraged by the performance of the ladies today," head coach
Jack Barton said. "Illinois State has won the regular season or their conference tournament three of the last five years and we competed with them. We didn't make a lot of unforced errors, but they play so big that they forced us to make errors. Now they understand that we need to neutralize the balls more when we play big-hitting teams like this.
"Against St. Francis, that was one of those matches where we needed to be completely present on every point. We were good enough to win, but I don't think we played every point with the focus needed. We found a way to win, so that's a positive for us."
The Cougars next action will be another doubleheader, this time facing UIC (10a) and Holy Cross College (3:30p) on Wednesday, February 22 at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club in Homewood.
