The Chicago State men's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a 70-41 loss to Bowling Green Monday night at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead but a Falcons 11-0 scoring run left the Cougars playing catch up. CSU cut the margin to one on two occasions in the first half but Bowling Green put together a couple runs to lead by 11 at the break. The cold shooting continued into the second half and a 10-0 Falcons run nearly doubled up the Cougars, 49-25, and Bowling Green cruised to the 29-point win.
Wesley Cardet led the Cougars with 12 points while
Deshawn Jean-Charles and
Jahsean Corbett added nine each. Jean-Charles just missed a double-double as he pulled down 10 rebounds. The Cougars shot just 17.9 percent in the second half and 25 percent for the game including four-of-16 from beyond the three-point line in the loss.
1st Half -Â Bowling Green 32, Chicago State 21
-Chicago State came out strong and hit their first two three-point attempts, one by Wesley Cardett and another by
Jahsean Corbett, to jump out to a 6-0 lead
-Bowling Green converted a layup to stop the run and the Cougars went cold, failing to score for just over six minutes and the Falcons took advantage with an 11-0 run to lead 11-6

Cameron Jernigan stopped the run with a layup then scored again off an offensive rebound and the quick 4-0 run cut the lead to one, 11-10
-Following a Bowling Green dunk, Cardet hit a layup and the lead was once again one, 13-12
-The Falcons converted back-to-back threes on consecutive possessions and led by its largest margin, seven points, 19-12

Deshawn Jean-Charles broke into the scoring column with a layup to stop the run and Cardet scored again following a
Tristan Arneaud steal and the Cougars pulled with three, 19-16
-The Falcons went on a 5-0 run before Jean-Charles hit a three to stop the run and make the score 24-19 Bowling Green
-Cardet scored his ninth point of the half following a Falcons score and the Cougars trailed 26-21 with 3:23 remaining in the half
-Bowling Green hit a bucket and a pair of free throws to extend the lead to nine, 30-21, then put back an offensive rebound at the buzzer to take an 11-point lead into the halftime locker room
2nd Half -  Bowling Green 38, Chicago State 20
-The Cougars struggled to score to start the second half, getting their first bucket, a three by
Noble Crawford three minutes into the half and CSU trailed 37-24
-Following a Bowling Green layup, Crawford converted one of two free throws and Chicago State trailed 39-25
-The Falcons then went on a 10-0 run for their largest lead of the game, 49-25, with 13:15 remaining to play
-Corbett stopped the run with a jumper at the 12:59 mark but the Cougars went on a scoring drought of over four minutes and the Falcons took advantage with a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 58-27
-Cardet scored his first points of the second half on a layup at the 8:41 mark followed by a Falcons score and it was 60-29 with 8:27 remaining
-The Cougars outscored the Falcons 11-10 the rest of the way but Bowling Green cruised to the win
Bowling Green 70, Chicago State 41
The next action for the CSU men's basketball team will be Thursday, November 9 at 7 p.m. against Mercer in the home opener at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago.Â
