Loyola Gets Past Chicago State 62-53 in Men’s Basketball

Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team came up short Tuesday night at Loyola, dropping a 62-53 decision to the Ramblers at Gentile Arena on the Loyola campus in Chicago. The Cougars never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 10 in the second half but Loyola took advantage of a prolonged Chicago State scoring drought to turn a double-digit deficit into a nine-point win.

Jahsean Corbett was the only Cougars player in double digits with 14 points. He also led the team in rebounds with six.

Next up for the Cougars will be a home game on Thursday, November 30 when CSU welcomes Delaware State to the Jones Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. start.

1st Half - Chicago State 28, Loyola 22
-Chicago State jumped out to a 6-0 lead on hoops by Jahsean Corbett, Deshawn Jean-Charles and Brent Davis before Loyola scored on a lone free throw
-The Ramblers made their first field goal at the 16:33 mark and the Cougars answered with a three by Kedrick Green to go back up six, 9-3
-Loyola hit a pair of free throws and CSU answered again with back-to-back scores by Wesley Cardet and Corbett and the lead for Chicago State was eight, 13-5, at the 9:49 mark
-The Ramblers went on a modest 7-0 run on a free throw and a pair of threes and Cardet stopped the run with a pull-up jumper and Loyola hit a three on their next possession to knot the score at 15-15 with 7:08 remaining until the half
-At that point Chicago State hit back-to-back threes, one by Jean-Charles and another by Noble Crawford and the teams traded a pair of buckets and the Cougars led by six, 23-17, at the 15:19 mark
-Green drove and hit a layup to extend the lead to eight when the Ramblers answered with a dunk and three to cut the margin to three, 25-22
-Corbett drained a three as the clock expired and the Cougars took a six-point lead into the locker room at halftime

2nd Half - Loyola 40, Chicago State 25
-Chicago State opened the second half with four made free throws after not attempting any in the first half to increase the lead to their largest of the game, 10 points, 32-22
-The first eight points of the half came at the charity stripe with Loyola hitting a pair then Green made two for CSU and the Cougars led 34-24 at the 17:54 mark
-The teams then exchanged three pointers with the Ramblers cutting the margin to seven but Crawford answered with his second trey of the game to push the margin back to 10, 37-27
-Loyola made a layup and the Cougars missed a three-point attempt to beat the shot clock but Cameron Jernigan skied for the offensive board and put down a powerful dunk to keep the margin at 10, 39-29
-Following a Ramblers layup, Davis hit a pair of free throws and Loyola countered with another bucket and Corbett scored for CSU and it was 43-33 with 11:46 remaining in regulation
-The Cougars then went on an extended scoring drought of over 11 minutes and Loyola took advantage with a 14-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 44-43, with a free throw at the 8:45 mark and had their largest lead of the game, four points, 47-43, with 7:36 left to play
-Corbett stopped the run with a pair of free throws cut Loyola's lead to two, 47-45
-Loyola continued to take advantage of the Cougars drought to go on another run, this one 6-1, and the Ramblers lead was their largest of the game, seven points, 53-46, and continued to a nine-point win
