Chicago State Men’s Basketball Falls to UT-Martin

Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team lost to the University of Tennessee-Martin 94-71 Saturday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The Cougars took a two-point lead late in the first half but the Skyhawks closed the half with a 9-2 run to lead by five at the break, 40-35. UT-M then opened the second half with a 4-0 and 10-3 run and the game remained in double digits throughout the second half.

Wesley Cardet led the Cougars with 26 points and Kedrick Green was the only other Cougars player in double figures with 15. Deshawn Jean-Charles led the Cougars with seven rebounds.

The Cougars will be back in action Tuesday, November 28 at 7 p.m., taking on the Loyola Ramblers at Gentile Arena and will be back at the Jones Convocation Center on Thursday, November 30 to host Delaware State at 7 p.m.

1st Half - UT-Martin 40, Chicago State 35
-The Cougars opened the scoring with a pair of Wesley Cardet free throws followed by a Deshawn Jean-Charles layup and CSU was up 4-0 in the first minute of play
-UT-Martin countered with an 8-0 run to go up 8-0 at the 16:22 mark
-Kedrick Green stopped the run with a three and Cardet converted a layup and free throw and Chicago State led 10-8
-The Skyhawks next three hoops came from distance and a 9-2 run, a Cameron Jernigan layup, and UT-M had the largest lead of the game by either team, five points, with 12:15 remaining in the half
-The Cougars then went on a 7-3 run on buckets by Noble Crawford, Cardet and a Brent Davis layup and free throw and the UT-M lead was one, 20-19, at the 10:13 mark
-UT-M answered with a run of their own, 9-3, the lone hoop for the Cougars was a Cardet three, and the Skyhawks led by seven, 29-22, at the 6:19 mark
-The game of runs continued with CSU reeling off eight straight points, a three by Jean-Charles, a Crawford free three and back-to-back layup by Kedrick Green and Chicago State had a 30-29 lead with 3:28 until the half
-Following a pair of UT-M free throws, Green hit a three and the Cougars were up two, 33-31 at the 2:43 mark
-The Skyhawks finished the half on a 9-2 run and went into the locker room at halftime with a five-point lead, 40-35

2nd Half - UT-Martin 54, Chicago State 36
-UT-M started the second half with a 4-0 run to extend their lead to nine, before the Cougars hit back-to-back three pointers, one by Corbett and another by Brent Davis and the lead was just three, 44-41, at the 18:17 mark
-The Skyhawks went on an 10-3 run with the only CSU bucket a three of the hand of Cardet, and the UT-M lead was eight, 54-44, with 15:33 remaining in regulation
-Cardet stopped the run with a three and UT-M responded with a 7-2 run and lead by 12, 61-49, at the 13:12 mark
-A.J. Neal got into the scoring column for the Cougars with a layup but UT-M again countered with a 12-2 run and the lead was 20, 73-53, at the 9:26 mark
-The Cougars responded with a modest 7-0 run on two Green layups and a Cardet three to cut the lead to 13, 73-60
-UT-M answered with a 7-1 spurt to go back up 19, 80-61
-Corbet and Cardet knocked down threes sandwiched between a pair of UT-M free throws and a layup and the lead was 17, 84-67, with 5:08 remaining
-The teams exchanged hoops and UT-M extended the lead to 20 on a few occasions and cruised to the 94-71 final
