Chicago State Drops 3-0 Decision to New Mexico State in Volleyball

Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to New Mexico State Monday night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The match was closer than the result with the first and third sets ending in 25-23 scores in favor of the hosts.

Patrycja Lagida led the Cougars with 10 kills while while Yanlis Feliz added nine. Feliz led in digs with eight and Wiktoria Zagumny led all players with 32 assists.

Next up for the Cougars will be the second of consecutive back-to-back road games, traveling to El Paso, Texas to face UTEP on Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m. The Miners are members of Conference USA and enter the contest with a 17-8 overall record and 9-5 in conference play. UTEP is 7-0 at home this season and have lost two consecutive matches.

Set 1 -  New Mexico State 25, Chicago State 23
-Chicago State jumped out to a 3-1 lead but NMSU rallied to tie 4-4
-Tied 5-5, the Cougars reeled off four consecutive points on two attack errors and a Feliz and Lagida kill to go up 9-5
-With CSU leading 10-7, the Aggies had a four-point run of their own and scored five of six to take a 12-11 lead
-The teams traded points before NMSU eventually led 21-18
-The Cougars then scored the next four on kills by Julieta Sandez and Berenice Almeyda, a block assist by Feliz and an attack error and CSU regained the lead 22-21
-New Mexico State scored the next three and the Cougars staved off one set point to pull to within 24-23 but the Aggies closed out the set with a kill and a 25-23 win

Set 2 -  New Mexico State 25, Chicago State 16
-The set was tied 3-3 when the Aggies went on a 4-0 run to go up 7-3
-A Lagida kill paused the run but NMSU scored six of the next eight points to extend the lead to 13-6
-The Cougars battled back with four in a row on a Sandez kill and block assist and two Aggies errors and CSU cut the gap to 13-10
-Chicago State wouldn't get closer than three points the rest of the way during the second set and New Mexico State earned the nine-point set win, 25-16

Set 3 -  New Mexico State 25, Chicago State 23
-The third set was close throughout as the teams traded points to a 14-14 tie
-The Aggies then scored three in a row and four of five to to go 18-15
-The Cougars rallied on kills by Lagida and Sandez and a pair of Aggies errors and the set was once again tied, 19-19
-Tied 21-21, NMSU scored the next three to get to a set and match point but a service ace and Feliz kill cut the margin to 24-23
-New Mexico State closed out the match with a kill and the 3-0 win
