MSOC vs. SIUE

General

Men's Soccer Falls Short 2-1 Against SIUE

Box Score

The Chicago State men's soccer team hosted the SIUE Cougars on Thursday night at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep where they suffered a 2-1 loss despite Iann Topete firing in his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

In the first half, Chicago State and SIUE stalled most of the play in the midfield as both teams traded possession of the ball several times. SIUE then executed a counterattack which resulted in the first goal of the match and the only one of the half as they led 1-0 at the break.

To start the second half, CSU was forced to press up the field more as they looked for an equalizer. It wasn't until the 79th minute that Topete finished off an opportunity to tie the match. However, an SIUE free-kick in the 83rd minute ended up being the winner as Chicago State fell short 2-1.

The Cougars will return back to Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. as they take on Houston Christian University for their final OVC home match.
