Box Score The Chicago State men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss to Incarnate Word Sunday afternoon at Gwendolyn Brooks in the Cougars OVC home opener. Trailing 3-0 late in the second half,
Jaiye Sheppard and Ian Topete fired in goals in the 73rd and 74th minutes but the rally stopped short and CSU could not gain the equalizer.
In the first half, the Cougars managed to keep possession most of the half and produced several chances yet the Cardinals stood their ground in order to keep the 0-0 deadlock at the break.
At the start of the second half, the Cardinals flipped the switch and scored three goals in a matter of ten minutes to lead 3-0 with 30 minutes to go in the match.
Chicago State continued with offensive pressure and fired in two goals in 36 seconds as
Jaiye Sheppard earned his second goal of the season and Ian Topete his first.
The Cougars fell short as the Cardinals held out their one-goal lead until the final whistle to win the match 3-2.
The Cougars will return to Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep on Thursday night to face off against Liberty University at 7 PM.
