Chicago State's women's tennis team competed in their first fall event of the season at the three-day Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State at the Gregory Street Courts in Normal, Illinois.
Sofiya Sedovich and
Helin Alvarez advanced to the championship match of their doubles flight and Alvarez, sister of men's tennis standout Pedro Alvarez, placed third in Singles Flight 6.
"This weekend was a good start for our women," head coach
Jack Barton said. "I was really impressed by the way they competed this weekend. They played with such passion and supported each other in every match that was played. Helin (Alvarez) had a great first showing this weekend. She teamed with Sofiya (Sedovich) and made it to the finals of their flight in doubles and she took third in her singles flight. We have a lot of work ahead of us but they are excited and ready to get at it in practice."
