CHICAGO — The Chicago State women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match to Idaho Sunday at Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy. Just 36 hours after the Cougars' first win of the season, the 2-0 loss drops their record to 1-5.
Goalkeeper Alexa Seiler saved two shots and the Cougars' defense, led by Carmen Acedo and Maria de la Fuente, held firm through 45 minutes for a 0-0 draw at halftime. Barbara Castellanos logged a shot on goal midway through the half.
The Cougars then controlled possession for most of the opening 15 minutes of the second half before Idaho broke through. Hannah Alfaro scored at the 63rd minute on an assist by Maddy Lasher to make it 1-0.
The Vandals then stuck again in the 85th minute, as Makenzie Burks curved in a strike to extend the lead to 2-0, the eventual final.
The Cougars return to Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep for a 7:00 p.m. start on Friday, September 9 against Southern Indiana.

Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
