Women's Soccer Earns 3-1 Win Against Alcorn State

LORMAN, MS - The Chicago State women's soccer faced off against the Alcorn State Braves and won 3-1, their second win of the season.

"This result was a combination of discipline, passion and a bunch of team effort," head coach Aulani Fernandez said. "It was great to find the back of the net again, and to have three goals scored by three different players speaks volumes about the hard work this team has put in to creating and committing to our attack. I'm super proud of us."

In the first half, the Cougars started off with brilliant offense as they possessed the ball and built up passing plays.

Eventually, the Cougars broke through with a beautiful goal from Giselle Sahagun after an outstanding build-up play.

The Cougars continued to attack, but the Braves' defense held up, and the game remained 1-0 at halftime.

To start the second half, the Braves evened it up, as in just mere seconds they fired in a goal to tie it up 1-1.

Nonetheless, the Cougars did not back down and, after another beautiful build-up play, they earned a penalty kick after a foul from the Braves.

Chicago State then sent on Daliisha Spence to take the kick as she easily converted to gift the Cougars a 2-1 lead with thirty minutes to go.

The Braves then ramped up the attack, but their charge turned into a counterattack for the Cougars, in which Mary Perez fired in another goal, which gave Chicago State a comfortable lead at 3-1 which was the eventual final score.

The Cougars next face Mississippi Valley State University on Sunday in Itta Bena, MS.
