CHICAGO — The Chicago State volleyball team faced the Pacific Tigers Thursday in the first match of the Windy City Invitational, falling three sets to none and suffered a 3-0 loss.
For Pacific, the Tigers were powered by outside hitters Alexa Edwards nad Biamba Kabengele. On the Cougars' side, Yanlis Feliz and Whitney Barnes tied with the most kills at ten each.
Set One: Pacific 25, Chicago State 16
- Pacific opened up scoring 1-0, Cougars bounced back with a kill by Berenice Almeyda
- It was a back-and-forth set which led to an 8-8 score
- Cougars went on a 4-0 run with two kills by Whitney Barnes
- The Tigers answered back with a 15-4 run to finish off Cougars and win the set
Set Two: Pacific 26, Chicago State 24
- Pacific once opened up scoring at 1-0 with a kill by Alexa Edwards
- Chicago State answered back with a 2-0 run featuring a kill by Barnes
- Led to yet another back-and-forth set with lots of score changes and a 24-24 score
- Two points were required to win, in which the Tigers suddenly pulled away 26-24 to win the set.
Set Three: Pacific 28, Chicago State 26
- Cougars came out hot with a 4-0 run featuring a service ace by Jaclyn Inclan and a kill by Almeyda
- Pacific eventually came back as they outscored Chicago State 7-1 at one point as the now led 18-16
- The set once again brought a 24-24 score which required a win by two points
- The Cougars and Tigers battled it out until a 26-26 draw in which the Tigers suddenly pulled away to take the set win 28-26
The Cougars continue their Windy City Invitational slate tomorrow against Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m.

Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
