Chicago (April 18, 2022) – Chicago State University announces the resignation of Athletic Director
Elliott Charles, which will take effect May 1, 2022.
"We appreciate the outstanding work that
Elliott Charles has done to move Chicago State Athletics to new levels of success for our student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and community, and for the university as a whole," said CSU University President Zaldwaynaka ("Z") Scott. "He and his family have embraced the university and community wholeheartedly and it has been a pleasure to have them as part of the Chicago State family. We are sorry to see them go, but we wish Elliott all the best as he works to achieve his life goals and career dreams in consulting."
Director Charles joined CSU in 2019. Under his leadership, sports programs' winning records improved, several new coaches were on boarded, a new sports program was added, facilities were upgraded and several student-athletes were recognized for superior performance by the Western Athletic Conference. In addition, under Charles' leadership, CSU had its first athlete designated an All American. Interim coverage of athletic director duties will be assumed by the current Deputy Director of Athletics/Chief Operating Officer
Jessica Poole. CSU is in the Western Athletic Conference through the end of this academic year and is committed to securing a new Division I conference.
"Chicago State University will launch a national search for an athletic director in the next month," said President Scott. "Our next athletic director will take the helm of an athletic department on the rise with investment growing, committed coaches and athletes, all within a thriving urban city rich with opportunities for recruits, media, and community engagement."
