Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team lost to Tarleton 79-60 Saturday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The Texans shot 51 percent from the field in the first half en route to building a 19-point lead then topped that by shooting 59 percent in the second half in the 19-point win.
Brandon Betson led the Cougars with 12 points and
Kedrick Green added 10 and those two were the only CSU players in double figures.
Jahsean Corbett was the leading rebounder in the game with 12 and J.J. Harris was the assist leader with four.
The Texans jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Betson hit a three to stop the run and the Cougars cut the lead to 7-6 following a

Tarleton responded with a 10-3 run and the Cougars cut the margin to four, 17-13, on a Teddy Bayi Ba Mendeng layup with 7:53 remaining in the first half. Favour Chukwukelu hit a three to cut the lead to single digits, nine points, 32-23 at the 2:29 mark. The Cougars failed to score for the remainder of the half and the Texans took advantage with a 10-0 run and a 42-23 halftime lead.
The teams exchanged hoops for much of the second half with Tarleton's lead hovering around the 20-point mark with neither team making a run. The Texans were up by as many as 24 and Chicago State cut the margin to 17 (56-39) following a pair of Corbett free throws at the 11:50 mark but Tarleton responded with a 10-3 run and the lead was back to 24 with 7:59 remaining.
The Cougars will be back in action Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. hosting Grand Canyon University at the JCC. Chicago State opened conference play with GCU on Dec. 30 with the Antelopes winning 80-63.
