Box Score The Chicago State men's basketball team dropped a 72-59 decision to Sam Houston Saturday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The Bearkats scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back en route to its 13-point win. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 6-19 overall and 2-10 in the Western Athletic Conference while Sam Houston improves to 15-11 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
Jahsean Corbett led the Cougars with 13 points while
Brandon Betson added 12 and
Kedrick Green had 10 as CSU had three double-figure scorers. Corbett also had a team-high nine rebounds.
Sam Houston jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Corbett recorded Chicago State's first two points from the free throw line. The Bearkats extended the lead to 13-2 before CSU recorded it's first field goal and five straight points by
Brandon Betson. Trailing 18-10, Chicago State went on a scoring drought of nearly four and a half minutes and the Bearkats extended the lead to 26-12. The Cougars had a pair of 5-0 runs to cut the lead to seven, 31-24, with 2:14 remaining and Sam Houston closed the first half with an 8-2 run and a 39-26 lead.
The teams exchanged threes to open the second half but Sam Houston converted their score into an 11-2 run and a 19-point lead, 50-31. The Bearkats maintained that lead throughout the second half, leading by as many as 22 before Chicago State closed the game with a 12-3 run for the 72-59 final.
The Cougars will be back in action Wednesday, Feb. 16 traveling to Nacogdoches, Texas to face Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 p.m. Chicago State just hosted the Lumberjacks last Thursday and dropped an 81-61 decision.

Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year.
