Jahsean Corbett Records Fourth Double-Double of the Season in Loss at Marquette

Box Score A busy week for the Chicago State men's basketball team culminated with an 82-68 loss at Marquette on Saturday at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Chicago State jumped out to a 25-19 lead but Marquette closed the half with a 21-8 run to go into the locker room at halftime leading by seven, 40-33. The Golden Eagles extended the lead to as many as 22 in the second half and the Cougars cut it 10 late but Marquette held on for the 14-point win.

Wesley Cardet led Chicago State with 18 points while Jahsean Corbett recorded his team-leading fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. 

Next up, the Chicago State men's basketball team will travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to face Bethune-Cookman on Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m. at the Moore Gymnasium. Chicago State and Bethune-Cookman have played one time in their series history, a 79-64 Cougars victory on November 28, 2008 as part of the Chicago Invitational Challenge in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. David Holston had 34 points, 10 assists and seven steals in that game for the Cougars.

Marquette opened the scoring and Jahsean Corbett responded with a layup to tie the game 2-2
Four lead changes three ties left the score at 13-13 with Chicago State hitting their first four three-point field goals
At that point, CSU went on a 6-0 run to jump out to a 19-13 lead following a Deshawn Jean-Charles jumper
The Cougars maintained the six-point lead at the 8:44 mark following a Cardet layup
Marquette went on a 9-0 run to go up 28-25 in a two-minute span
The Golden Eagles closed the half with a 12-8 run to lead by seven at the half, 40-33

2nd Half - Marquette 42, Chicago State 35
The Golden Eagles opened the second half with an 11-0 run, stopping the run with free throws, but the Cougars didn't score their first field goal until the 12:28 mark and trailed 54-38
Marqutte extended the lead to their largest of the game, 22 points, 65-43 with 9:19 left to play
The Cougars battled back to within 11 following a pair of Elijah Weaver free throws and trailed 74-63 with 4:44 remaining
The lead was 10, 77-67, with 1:20 left when Marquette closed the game our from the free throw line and the 14-point win

About Chicago State
Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. CSU held memberships in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NCAA Division II before transitioning to NCAA Division I in 1994. Melvin Bland was the first CSU student-athlete to gain NAIA All-American status in 1974 as a wrestler. Fred Evans became the first black swimmer ever to win a national championship in 1975. In 1991, the Chicago State women's tennis team became the first all-black college team to amass an unbeaten season at the NCAA level. CSU's women's basketball team earned a spot in the 2011 Women's Basketball Invitational and CSU's men's basketball team won the 2013 Great West Conference Tournament title, also making an appearance in the CollegeInside.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). The Men's Outdoor Track & Field 4x100-Meter Relay team were 2019 Honorable Mention All-Americans and WAC Champions. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
