LAS CRUCES, NM — The Chicago State women's volleyball team faced off against New Mexico State and suffered a 3-0 loss.
Yanlis Feliz tallied eleven kills, while Julieta Sandez added on four and Mesalina Severino and Ezgi Dokuzlar each posted for three.
Set One - New Mexico State 25, Chicago State 22
- New Mexico earned the night's first point to start out on top, 1-0
- The Cougars bounced back thanks to an attack error from the Aggies
- The Aggies answered back with a 3-0 run to go up 4-1
- Suddenly, the Cougars erupted with an 8-0 rally to stun the Aggies and go up 9-4
- The Aggies stormed back and fought to a 22-22 score, ultimately sealing the set win at 25-22
Set Two - New Mexico State 25, Chicago State 9
- The Aggies began with a 7-1 rally to stun the Cougars early
- The Cougars went on to score eight more featuring kills from Laura Ilizastigui, Yunju Lee, and Feliz
- In the end, the Cougars fell short as the Aggies continued their scorching hot streak to seal the win with a final score of 25-9
Set Three - New Mexico State25, Chicago State 10
- The Cougars began with a beautiful service ace from Jaclyn Inclan to take a 1-0 lead
- However, the Aggies answered back with a 4-1 run to storm back ahead
- New Mexico State continued its domination as the Cougars only managed eight more points
- The Aggies took the match and swept Chicago State 3-0
The Cougars next face off against West Virginia State University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
About Chicago State
Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. CSU held memberships in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NCAA Division II before transitioning to NCAA Division I in 1994. The Men's Outdoor Track & Field 4x100-Meter Relay team were 2019 Honorable Mention All-Americans and WAC Champions. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
