Cougars Men's Soccer Fall in Overtime at Xavier

The Chicago State men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to the Xavier University Musketeers Friday afternoon in Cincinnati.

"Xavier is one of the best teams in the country and we held neck and neck with them from start to finish," head coach Trevor Banks said. "They had moments, but we also had moments in which we didn't capitalize. That's a team that's been in one system for ages and you can tell by how they play. We are still learning one another on the field, but we will continue to grow. For me, this is the best match we have played all season but we have to, and will, learn how to take care of our chances in regulation. Right now, we will forget about this match and move on as we have another tough opponent in Michigan on Monday."

In the first and second half, the Cougars and Musketeers went back-and-forth, each producing scoring chances while Cougars goalkeeper Joe Bowels kept the Musketeers out of the scoring column in regulation, recording six saves to help force overtime.

In just the second minute of overtime, the Musketeers broke through the Cougars defense and scored the only goal of the match, courtesy of Karsen Henderlong off of an assist by Feliz Boa-Tangen, which sealed the victory for the Musketeers at 1-0.

The Cougars next face the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on September 13th at 6 p.m.
