Cougars Fall to Antelopes at SeatGeek Stadium

Chicago State and Grand Canyon battled to first-half stalemate Saturday

CHICAGO — Facing the Antelopes for the second consecutive match, the Chicago State women's soccer team (0-13, 0-11 WAC) fell, 4-0, to Grand Canyon (5-8, 5-4 WAC).

"Today, we had our best first half since we started playing our conference games, and I am very proud of the girls," head coach Cristiano Costa said. "Our level of focus and confidence were on point. Unfortunately, we ran out of energy at the end of the second half, and it cost us the game."

The first half featured 45 minutes of scoreless soccer, with Chicago State's defense clamping down on the Antelopes' offensive attack.

The Cougars employed a wider attack that generated more scoring opportunities. Sara Quevedo, Barbara Castellanos and Carmen Acedo all secured chances for Chicago State.

In the first half, freshman goalkeeper Stella Chiara Chiaradia added to her WAC lead with three saves.

Out of the locker room, however, Grand Canyon launched its offense into gear. Freshman Brenna Alderson tallied two goals in seven minutes to lift the Antelopes ahead, 2-0.

Jaycee Iranshad then struck in her team-high sixth goal of the season, and Haley Bostard scored her first, to cap off a 4-0 victory.

The Cougars will next face Utah Valley at 1 p.m. on Thursday, then again take on the Wolverines at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The matches will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network.
