Homewood, Ill. — The Chicago State men's tennis team lost 6-1 to the DePaul Blue Demons Sunday afternoon in Homewood. It was the second consecutive contest where the Cougars dropped the doubles point while leading in the third match and where they lost five of six singles matches where
Pedro Alvarez picked up the lone win for CSU.
Jesus Perez Plaza and
Jakov Suler dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles and, at No. 2,
Jakub Zamorski and
Pedja Kolaric lost 6-3.
Javier Sanchez Pradillo and
Pedro Alvarez were leading 5-3 at No. 3 when DePaul clinched the point.
"Another really tough match today," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We just have to continue to work. Pedro (Alverez) is really stepping up and playing well in singles and doubles. Jakov (Suler) has been playing some really tough matches."
Alvarez, playing on the sixth line, made quick work of DePaul's Phasu Sirinit 6-4, 6-1, to raise his single record to 6-4 for the season.
Jakov Suler dropped a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 decision at No. 1 while
Javier Sanchez lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. At No. 3,
Jesus Perez Plaza lost 4-6, 6-1, 2-2, retired, at No. 4,
Jakub Zamorski lost 7-5, 6-2 and at No. 5,
Pedja Kolaric lost 6-2, 6-3.
"I really feel like we are getting better," Barton said. "We just have to keep stepping up to the challenge each team presents."
The Cougars next match is Friday, March 18, at 3 p.m. against Butler in Indianapolis.
