Indianapolis, Ind. — The Chicago State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana, Saturday afternoon. The Cougars battled but dropped two-of-three three-set matches and two first-set tiebreakers in the tightly-contested contest.
Jesus Perez Plaza and
Jakov Suler dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles and, at No. 2,
Jakub Zamorski and
Pedja Kolaric lost 6-4.
Javier Sanchez Pradillo and
Pedro Alvarez were leading 5-4 at No. 3 when IUPUI clinched the point.
"Today was a day that was hard fought, but we missed a lot of opportunities on critical points," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We were in doubles and four of the six singles matches but, emotionally, we lacked during some critical stretches. We have to work on being mentally tougher at critical times of the match."
IUPUI won five of six singles matches. The lone Cougars win was at No. 6 where
Pedro Alvarez won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Jakov Suler, playing on the first line, dropped a 7-5, 4-6, 5-7 decision while
Javier Sanchez lost 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. At No. 3,
Jesus Perez Plaza lost 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4,
Jakub Zamorski lost 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 and at No. 5,
Pedja Kolaric lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
The Cougars next match is tomorrow, Sunday, March 14, against DePaul in Homewood-Flossmoor at 11:30 a.m.
