MILWAUKEE — The Chicago State women's soccer team dropped its season-opening matchup at Marquette, 5-0, on Friday night in Milwaukee.
Marquette struck first with an Alex Campana goal in the 14th minute, and the Golden Eagles never looked back. Meredith McGuire scored in the 29th minute to power Marquette to a 2-0 halftime lead.
Three Golden Eagles goals in the second half sealed the 5-0 win on their home turf.
Chicago State goalkeeper Stella Chiara Chiaradia tallied seven saves in her debut, while
Lauren Reiber (Boise, Idaho/Borah) and
Julia Oliveira (Canoas, Brazil) tallied shots on goal.
"We knew going to Marquette that it would be a very good challenge for us to start our season and get ready for our conference games," head coach Cristiano Costa said. "I have no doubt that our team will learn from tonight's experience and grow from it."
The Cougars next face Valparaiso on Wednesday at 1pm Central.
