Box Score Muncie, Ind. — The Chicago State men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Ball State Wednesday afternoon in Muncie, Indiana.
Ball State won two of three matches to earn the doubles point, with the Cougars
Jakov Suler and
Jesus Perez leading 5-4 when the Cardinals clinched the point.
Pedro Alvarez and
Max Sandoval (No. 2) lost 6-1 and
Jakub Zamorski and
Javier Sanchez (No. 3) dropped a 6-3 decision.
"Silly mistakes made it difficult for us today," head coach
Jack Barton said. "You have to be smart in the way you play and trust the work you put in during practice, unfortunately that didn't happen for us this afternoon."
In singles play,
Jakov Suler lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, Jesus Perez dropped a 6-3, 7-6 decision at No. 2 while Javier Sanchez lost 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
Jakub Zamorski lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4,
Pedro Alvarez lost 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 and
Max Sandoval retired due to injury at No. 6.
"We played well in singles but they were tough," Barton said. "We made several pushes, but they did well to counter our momentum. We are off until March 5
th, so we will get healthy, practice hard and focus on the rest of the season. We will learn from the last five matches and not look back."
The next action for the Cougars will be Friday, March 5, against North Central College at noon in Park Forest, Illinois.
