Cougars Men's Basketball Drop 75-57 Decision to Bowling Green

The Chicago State men's basketball team dropped a 75-57 loss to Bowling Green Sunday afternoon at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Cougars shot just 20 percent and had 15 turnovers in the first half leaving them to play catch up in their fourth consecutive road game.

Brandon Betson scored 17 points to lead CSU while freshman Jahsean Corbett added a season and career-high 16 in the loss.

Both teams started cold from the field to start the game as it was just 6-2 at the first media time out. The Cougars made just one of their first seven shots (14.2 percent) while the Falcons were 2-for-9 (22 percent) and led with a three pointer and free throw. The drought extended to a 1-for-12 start for Chicago State (8.3 percent) before Andrew Lewis scored on a layup to stop the skid and it was 12-5 Falcons with 11:37 to go in the first half.

Coreyoun Rushin and Bryce Johnson each scored and Bowling Green led by eight, 17-9, with 6:34 remaining before heading into the halftime break. The Falcons ended the half with an 11-6 run and 28-15 halftime lead and had led by as many as 16 during the first half.

Bowling Green began the half converting a three to extend its lead to the largest of the game to that point, 31-15, before the Cougars leading scorer, Brandon Betson, scored his first points of the game, a three pointer, and the Falcons led 31-18 with 19:20 remaining in the game.

Following Betson and Bryce Johnson scores for CSU, the Falcons went on a 15-4 run to lead 51-26 with 13:01 remaining in the game. Johnson scored to snap the run and, following a Bowling Green dunk, the Cougars went on an 11-0 run with two Betson three pointers, and a Corbett three and layup to cut the lead to 53-38 with 9:22 remaining in the game.

The teams exchanged scores the rest of the way and the Falcons closed out the game with an 18-point victory, 75-57.

The Cougars will complete its current five-game road trip with a trip to Baltimore to face Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and will return home to the JCC on Saturday, December 4, hosting Tennessee State.
