LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Chicago State men's soccer team (2-8-2, 0-4-1 WAC) suffered a 2-1 loss to the UNLV Rebels on Sunday evening.
Early on in the first half, the Rebels came out pressuring intensely, which forced the Cougars to sit back and defend quite a bit.
This led to a run by the Rebels in which Reshawn Kellman committed a foul that led to a penalty kick at just the fifth minute of the match. UNLV's Jesus Partida easily converted the penalty kick score, making the score 1-0.
But the Cougars quickly clawed their way back just two minutes later on a beautiful finish by Enrique Zamora which was assisted by both Patrick Pires and Tahja Reynolds, tying the score at 1-1.
However, The Rebels quickly retaliated and scored their second goal of the match with a finish by Skyler Goo which was assisted by both Gabriel Claudio and Marco Gonzalez, lifting the score to 2-1.
The first half ended with a score of 2-1.
In the second half, the Cougars and the Rebels fought relentlessly throughout with countless scoring plays drawn up. But nonetheless, the match ended with a 2-1 win for the Rebels as the Cougars fell short.
