NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Chicago State women's soccer team (0-11-1, 0-5 WAC) suffered a loss to the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks Sunday, 9-1.
At the beginning of the first half, the Cougars and the Lumberjacks both produced several goal scoring chances, however, due to great defending by both teams and shots hitting the crossbar, the battle remained scoreless throughout its early stages.
The Lumberjacks eventually broke through the CSU back line at the 24th minute of the match with a stellar finish by Caylon McMillan which was assisted by Carli Arthurs, making the score 1-0.
Just eight minutes after their first, SFA scored their second with a beautiful finish by Carli Arthurs which was assisted by Hailey Kloc. Arthurs now tallying an assist and a goal, making it 2-0 early on for the Lumberjacks.
Nonetheless, the Cougars continued pushing until the last minute and at the 44th minute mark scored their first goal of the match courtesy of an outstanding finish by Marissa Beale which was assisted by captain Sara Quevedo.
The half ended on a positive note for the Cougars with a score of 2-1 as they looked to push for a game-tying goal in the second half.
At the start of the second half, the Lumberjacks came out hot and just a minute into the match scored their third goal with a finish by Colleen Feagins which was assisted by McMillan, making the score 3-1 in a dominating showing for the Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks would go on to score six more goals throughout the half, the fourth at the 54th minute by Teia Haynes, the fifth by Feagins, the sixth by Breana Beaty, the seventh by McMillan, the eighth by Bri Garza, and lastly, the ninth from Haynes.
The match ended with a score of 9-1.
The Cougars next face Abilene Christian University on Saturday, October 16th at SeatGeek Field at 1 p.m.
