Women’s Basketball Falls to Kansas City

Bowers scores team-best 18 points

CHICAGO  – The Chicago State women's basketball team dropped an 85-50 contest to Kansas City at the Jones Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars had a team-best 18 points from Tyeisha Bowers who was honored pregame for scoring her 1,000th career point earlier this season. Bethany Carstens (Kenai, Alaska/Nikiski) was also in double figures with 11 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Inez Mata Boix, who was also honored pregame for becoming Chicago State's all-time blocked shots leader, added 10 rebounds in the contest.

The Cougars struggled to score throughout the contest, shooting just 23.8 percent for the contest and the Roos took advantage by shooting almost 50.0 percent from the floor for the contest. The Roos jumped out to a seven-point lead but buckets from Carstens and Mata Boix cut the lead to a single possession at the 6:51 mark. Kanas City started to pull away late in the first half taking a douhle-digit lead – 20-10- at the 2:46 mark.

Kansas City pulled away in the second quarter, holding the Cougars to four points, while extending their lead to a game-high 24 points at the break as they took a 41-17 lead into halftime.

Taylor Robinson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) was a nice spark in the third quarter with four points and three rebounds off the bench but the Cougars struggled to keep possession allowing the Roos 13 points off the turnovers in the third quarter.

Chicago State finally found its shooting touch in the fourth quarter and was led by Carstens and Bowers who each had eight points in the quarter but it was too late as the Cougars fell to the Roos.
