Bowers scores team-best 21 points

RIVERSIDE, Calif.  – The Chicago State Cougars dropped a road contest, 103-68, to California Baptist on Saturday afternoon. Tyeisha Bowers led the way with 21 points while Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) added a game-high nine rebounds. Cliff and Bethany Carstens (Kenai, Alaska/Nikiski) were also in double figures with 14 points each.

The Cougars had a slow start to the contest finding themselves trailing 11-2 early but the visitors chipped away and at the middle part of the first quarter had the Lancers lead down to singles digits and were able to get it to a single possession late in the first quarter.

With the Lancers up by three points at the 3:32 mark of the first quarter, they used a 9-6 spurt to keep the lead and take an eight point lead at the quarter break.

A pair of free throws pushed the lead into double digits and with the home team leading 35-23 at the 8:23 mark, Bethany Carstens (Kenai, Alaska/Nikiski) used a fast break layup to being to shift the momentum to the Cougars. That layup sparked an 11-0 run that saw the Lancer lead dwindle to three points midway through the quarter – highlighted by six unanswered by Tyeisha Bowers. The Cougars were able to keep the score to two possessions until late in the half when the Lancers closed on a 10-1 run to take a 52-38 lead at the break.

The Cougars went cold in the second half and saw the Lancers lead balloon to 26 points in the third quarter as they outscored Chicago State by 10 points. Chicago State's offense stalled the remainder of the contest as they fell 103-68.
