CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's basketball team welcomed in-state foe Northern Illinois for its final contest at the Jones Convocation Center in 2019, but the Huskies' 12-0 run early in the second half proved to be too much for the Cougars Thursday night.
The Cougars (4-9) saw a strong effort from
Xavier Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Hopkins H.S.), who turned in 15 points and seven rebounds.
Jace Colley (Preston, Nova Scotia, Canada/Toronto Basketball Academy) added 13 and six, respectively.
CSU started with a lead early in the first half, but early fouls doomed Chicago State, forcing NIU to the line early. The Huskies were effective, sinking 24-of-36 from the charity stripe.
NIU's Eugene German led all scorers with 22 points while Tyler Johnson chipped in 14 for the Huskies.
The Cougars begin a two-game road trip at Indiana State for a Sunday matinee. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
