Cougars Conclude GSU Invitational with a Split in Last Two Matches

ATLANTA – The Chicago State volleyball team concluded the Georgia State Invitational with a split in its last two matches here today at GSU Arena. CSU opened the day with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) victory over the host Panthers before finishing the weekend with a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 21-25, 23-25) defeat to Sam Houston State.
 
CSU (5-6) received game-high totals from senior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview), junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) and sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) against Georgia State. Dela Cruz tallied 12 kills, Klavitter posted 17 digs and Adams dished out 24 assists in the match.
 
Sophomore Summer Farris (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and senior Gabby Pearl (Farmer City, IL/Blue Ridge) each added eight kills, and junior Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) tied a match-high three blocks (one solo, two assisted).
 
Sarah Renner recorded 23 assists to lead Georgia State (2-6), while Crystal Lee tied Dela Cruz for match-high kill honors with 12.
 
In the SHSU match, Adams led the Green and White with 30 assists and two service aces followed by Klavitter recording a match-high 25 digs en route to earning all-tournament team honors. Dela Cruz added 17 kills and junior Beatriz Palmieri (Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Professora Carlina Cacapava de Mello) tallied 13 kills. Farris finished with a season-best 10 kills and hit .429 (10-1-21) to go along with three block assists.
 
Jaclyn Ward (45 assists) and Taylor Cunningham (23 kills) produced match-high numbers to lead the Bearkats (5-4).
 
The Cougars head to DeKalb, Ill., on Tuesday, Sept. 11 for another in-state showdown as they take on host Northern Illinois in a live broadcast on ESPN+ from Victor E. Court starting at 7 p.m.
