CSU Volleyball Opens GSU Invitational with 3-0 Defeat to Ole Miss

ATLANTA – Chicago State volleyball opened its weekend slate here today in the opening match of the Georgia State Invitational with a 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 18-25) defeat to Ole Miss at GSU Arena.

CSU held a slim 2-1 advantage in service aces, while both teams finished with seven total blocks in the match.

Junior Kirah Williams-Shephard (Toronto, Canada/L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) led the Green and White with nine kills and three blocks (two assisted, one solo), while sophomore Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) dished out a match-best 21 assists and junior Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) finished 10 digs.

Senior Gabby Pearl (Farmer City, IL/Blue Ridge) also recorded nine kills, junior Beatriz Palmieri (Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, Brazil/Professora Carlina Cacapava de Mello) finished with eight kills, and sophomore Summer Farris (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) notched three blocks (two solo, one assisted) of her own for the Cougars (4-5).

Emily Stroup paced Ole Miss (7-1) with a match-leading 15 kills.

CSU concludes the tournament tomorrow with a pair of matches against host Georgia State at 11 a.m. and Sam Houston State at 3 p.m.
