Lowe Posts Second Consecutive 3-for-4 Hitting Effort for CSU against Bradley

CHICAGO – Junior Tyler Lowe (Northville, Mich./Northville) posted a 3-for-4 hitting effort for the second consecutive game for the Chicago State baseball team as it fell to visiting in-state foe Bradley in a non-conference battle by a score of 8-3 this afternoon at Cougar Stadium.

The Green and White opened the scoring in the second inning after Lowe belted his fifth home run of the season with a two-run shot to center field off Bradley starting pitcher Ben Cilano that also plated senior Matt Paciello (Wellington, Fla./Park Vista) for a 2-0 advantage.

A solo homer from Luke Shadid to right field off CSU junior starter Edward Kang (Taoyuan, Taiwan/Pingzhen) in third inning helped the Braves slice their deficit to 2-1. BU evened the score at 2-2 in the fifth after Kyle Antos crossed home plate via a wild pitch.

The Braves brought home three more runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good at 5-2 and saw their lead grow to 8-2 with three runs in the eighth inning which was highlighted by a two-run double from Eli Rawlinson.

Chicago State scored again in the ninth inning when junior Tyler Zunkel (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) hit a leadoff single before scoring from second off an RBI single by senior Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) to pull within 8-3.

Kang (1-5) took the loss for the Green and White after giving up five runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings thrown. Relief pitchers Robert Gutierrez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) and Dean Youngblood (Melissa, Texas/Melissa) teamed up to hold BU without a hit or a run in the final two innings.

The Cougars welcome Western Athletic Conference foe Northern Colorado to Cougar Stadium this weekend for a three-game conference series that begins Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
