Baseball Drops Non-Conference Decision at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Chicago State baseball took a break from conference play here this evening as it battled host Purdue in a non-conference contest at Alexander Field before dropping a 8-1 decision.

Purdue took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jackson McGowan lined an RBI single through the left side of the infield that scored Skyler Hunter from third base.

The Boilermakers added a pair of runs in the third inning to hike their leading margin to 3-0. An RBI sacrifice fly by Alec Olund that brought home McGowan as the home team saw its lead grow to 4-0.

In the seventh inning, Evan Warden's three-RBI double to right center highlighted a four-run Purdue rally to increase its advantage to 8-0.

CSU got on the board in the ninth inning as junior Tyler Zunkel (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) led off with a single and scored five plays later on an RBI single from Lowe to close the scoring.

Leading the Green and White at the plate today was junior Tyler Lowe (Northville, Mich./Northville) as he hit 3-for-4 with a double. Freshman Blake Kaplan (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista) allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits through 5.2 innings of work in taking the loss. Junior Grant Trower (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) posted four strikeouts over 2.1 relief innings while giving up four runs (two earned) on two hits.
