Cougars Close Weekend Series at Saint Louis with 4-0 Defeat

ST. LOUIS – Chicago State baseball concluded its first true road series of the season here today as it was defeated by host Saint Louis, 4-0, at the Billiken Sports Center.

The game opened with a scoreless pitcher's duel between CSU starter Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) and SLU starter Jackson Wark that lasted for three innings. An RBI sacrifice fly to right field from Parker Sniatynski brought home Alex King, who reached on an error a play earlier, to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

SLU added three runs in the eighth innings that included Sniatynski hitting a two-run doubles to conclude the scoring.

Four players recorded a hit for the Green and White with junior Matt Cox (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) and Jon Coss III (Richmond, Texas/Reagan) each going 1-for-3. Thomas allowed an unearned run on six hits through 6.2 innings thrown in taking the loss while recording three strikeouts and two walks.

Next up for Chicago State is a four-game series against city rival UIC at Curtis Granderson Stadium on the West Side that begins Friday, March 9 with a start time of 4 p.m.
