Baseball Falls to Seattle, 10-1, in WAC Home Opener

CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball fell to visiting Seattle here today at Cougar Stadium by a score of 10-1 in its Western Athletic Conference home opener.

An RBI groundout by Sean Sutton brought home Austin Lively from third to give SU an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Green and White began the bottom half of the first with two singles to lead off before senior Matt Paciello (Wellington, Fla./Park Vista) bringing home fellow senior Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) from second with an RBI single to even the score at 1-1.

Kyler Murphy gave the Redhawks a 2-1 advantage in the second inning with an RBI double that scored Cameron Sterne and later increased their lead to 3-1 in the fifth on a solo home run from Lucas Denney.

SU added six runs in the sixth inning and tallied its final run in the eighth inning.

Paciello finished the day hitting 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Chicago State, while Thomas batted 2-for-4. Freshman Dylan Cumming (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) dropped to 1-4 on the season after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and struck out four batters over six innings thrown

Both teams will close the series tomorrow with a doubleheader that begins at 12 noon.
