Chicago State Closes Series at No. 19 UCF with 8-0 Defeat

ORLANDO – Chicago State baseball closed out its weekend series here today with No. 19 UCF after falling to the host Knights at John Euliano Park by an 8-0 margin.
 
The home team opened the game with a pair of runs in the first inning for a 2-0 lead, highlighted by an RBI single from Logan Heiser. UCF would add a run in the fourth and sixth innings before scoring twice in the seventh and eighth for the final tally.
 
Senior Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) performed double duty today for the Green and White as he batted 1-for-4 and took the loss on the mound after giving up four runs on seven hits through six innings thrown to go along with posting four strikeouts.
 
Junior Tyler Zunkel (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) finished the day hitting 1-for-3 for CSU.
 
Up next for the Cougars is a mid-week matchup at Cougar Stadium Tuesday afternoon against rival Valparaiso with the first pitch set for 3 p.m.
