Baseball Falls to No. 19 UCF in Weekend Series Opener

ORLANDO – Chicago State baseball opened its weekend series here tonight against No. 19 UCF after falling to the host Knights by a score of 10-0 at John Euliano Park.

UCF recorded a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Matthew Mika blasted a two-run home run off CSU starting pitcher Dylan Cumming (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc).

A four-run rally in the fourth increased the Knights' advantage to 6-0 which included a double from Dalton Wingo which plated three runs. The home team then added three runs in the fifth and scored another run in the seventh to conclude the scoring.

Seniors Matt Paciello (Wellington, Fla./Park Vista) and Zach Thomas (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) paced the Cougars offensively by hitting 2-for-4, while Cumming fell to 1-2 on the season after allowing nine runs on seven hits through five innings of work in addition to posting four strikeouts.

The Cougars will return to action for the second game of this weekend's series tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. with junior Dean Youngblood (Melissa, Texas/Melissa) making his first pitching start of the season.
