Women’s Basketball Concludes Final Road Swing Today at UMKC

KANSAS CITY – Chicago State concluded its final road swing here today at the Swinney Recreation Center against host UMKC in the teams' first Western Athletic Conference matchup of the season against each other.
 
The 'Roos opened the game with a 9-6 lead at the 6:20 mark of the first quarter and later increased its lead to 16-8 with 4:20 remaining. CSU came back to post a 12-5 scoring drive in a near five-minute stretch to pull within a point at 21-20 at 9:49 in the start of the second quarter on a layup from senior Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor). UMKC then went on a 28-10 run for the rest of the quarter to go into halftime with a 49-30 advantage en route to the win.
 
Redshirt sophomore Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain) paced the Green and White as she scored 13 points, grabbed a game-high six rebounds and dished out four assists. Redshirt senior Phylicia Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) added 12 points, and Harris finished with eight points while she posting a season-best five assists.
 
Kiana Law tallied a game-high 20 points to lead all scorers for the 'Roos.
 
CSU heads back to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center for a season-ending, three-game homestand that begins on Thursday, Feb. 22 against defending WAC champion New Mexico State with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.
