CSU Women’s Basketball Falls at Northwestern in Midday Battle

EVANSTON, Ill. – Chicago State women's basketball continued its road swing here earlier today with a midday battle against host Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena, but a big run helped the host Wildcats capture a 97-35 victory.

The home team opened with a 10-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter that ended with Abi Scheid hitting a pair of free throws with 7:13 remaining. CSU would go on a 10-4 run in a span of 2:43 to pull within four points at 14-10 as junior Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) closed the run with a three-pointer at the 4:30 mark. NU then went on score 11 unanswered points in the last four-plus minutes to increase its advantage to 25-10 at the end of the stanza.
 
The Wildcats outscored the Green and White by a 54-14 margin over the second and third quarters in cruising to the win.
 
Freshman Taylor Robinson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) led Chicago State with nine points and three assists in addition to hitting all four of her free throw attempts. Junior Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) added six points and six rebounds, while sophomore Tamara Olverson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) also contributing six points with two steals.
 
Six players scored in double figures for Northwestern with Lindsey Pulliam and Sydney Ward each scoring a game-high 14 points.
 
CSU is back in action on Friday, Dec. 21 with a trip to DeKalb, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois in its final contest before the Christmas holiday live on ESPN3 beginning at 6 p.m.
