Bowers Drops 26 Points in Cougars’ Season Opener at Xavier

CINCINNATI – Sophomore Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) dropped 26 points for the Chicago State women's basketball team in tonight's season opener here at the Cintas Center as host Xavier captured a 91-57 victory.
 
Tonight's game also marked the first for the Green and White under new head coach Misty Opat.
 
Bowers, who averaged 12.3 points and 2.5 assists per game as a freshman last season, shot 9-of-14 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line to lead CSU.
 
In her collegiate debut, freshman Kourtney Crane (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) added 11 points and a blocked shot in addition to shooting 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
 
Fellow freshman Shamim Wambere (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) grabbed six rebounds and junior Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain/) produced a game high-tying four steals
 
Deja Ross recorded a game-leading 22 points to lead four Musketeers in double figures.
 
CSU makes its home debut this season at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center this Saturday for homecoming when it battles Missouri Valley Conference foe Evansville with the opening tip set for 2 p.m.
