Opening Serve – The Chicago State volleyball team returns to the Jacoby Dickens Center this week for a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches. CSU hosts conference newcomer California Baptist tomorrow night with a start time of 7 p.m., then takes on Grand Canyon in its annual Dig Pink match on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Cougars – Chicago State heads into this week's home slate sporting an 8-15 season record that includes a 2-5 mark against WAC opponents after earning a split last week with a 3-2 home win over Kansas City and a 3-0 defeat at GCU two days later. Senior outside hitter Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) leads CSU on the offensive end with an average of 3.67 kills per set, while junior defensive specialist Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) ranks first in the WAC with 5.71 digs per set and has tallied a team-high 23 service aces this season.

Scouting the Lancers – Making its first trip to the Windy City, California Baptist has posted a 15-5 record on the season and leads the league with a 6-2 ledger. The Lancers extended their winning streak to four thanks to road wins against Seattle U (3-1) and CSU Bakersfield (3-2) last week. Tessa Oaks leads CBU with 3.74 kills a set which ranks her third among the WAC leaders followed by Natalie Zimmerer dishing out a league-leading 10.50 assists per set.

Series History – Tomorrow's match marks the first-ever meeting between Chicago State and California Baptist on the volleyball court.

Scouting the 'Lopes – Grand Canyon holds a 9-10 season record and has a 2-5 conference record going into entering tomorrow night's match at UMKC. Last week, the 'Lopes closed a three-match homestand with wins over CSU Bakersfield (3-2) and CSU (3-0) at Antelope Arena. Kayla Matthews leads the team in kills per set with an average of 2.67. Annabelle Kubinski has tallied team highs in kills (162) and hitting percentage (.320) on the year.

Series History – The 'Lopes have amassed a 2-9 record in the all-time series with the Cougars dating back to the 2013-14 season which includes a 3-0 victory last Saturday in Phoenix. CSU's last win in the series came on Sept. 23, 2017 in a four-set decision at the JDC.

Klavitter Captures CSU Career Digs Record – Klavitter made history last week as she produced 37 digs to become the school's Division I Career Digs Leader with 1,329 heading into tomorrow's match. After recording 30 digs against UMKC last Thursday to pull within two to tie the record, the three-year starter tallied 17 digs this past Saturday at Grand Canyon to surpass Mysta Townsell's total of 1,314 digs.
 
Cliff Claims CSU D-I Block Assists Record – Junior middle blocker Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) recorded five block assists in the UMKC match to claim the CSU D-I career record for block assists with 184 to pass former Cougar Alison West's total of 181. Cliff has recorded 44 block assists so far this season while ranking fourth all-time in total blocks with 209.

Up Next – Chicago State travels to Riverside, Calif., to open a three-match road swing next week at CBU on Thursday, Oct. 25 beginning at 9 p.m.
