CHICAGO – Senior Glen Burns (West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian) scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Chicago State men's basketball team as it fell to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in a close Western Athletic Conference battle by a score of 87-81 today at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center in the finale of a three-game homestand.

Burns shot 7-of-8 from the field, hit both of his three-point shot attempts and finished 5-of-6 at the free throw line while adding three steals and two assists for CSU.

The Green and White broke an early 6-6 tie in the first half with a 12-2 scoring run over a four-plus minute span to capture an 18-8 advantage at the 12:46 mark that ended on a dunk from senior Deionte Simmons (Detroit, Mich./Lewisville (Texas)). After CSU later increased its lead to 26-20 with 8:36 left in the stanza on a pair of Simmons free throws, UTRGV would go on a 17-6 run in a seven-plus minute span to go into halftime ahead by a score of 37-32.

The second half started with the Vaqueros using a close 29-24 scoring drive over 10-plus minutes which brought their lead to the biggest of the game at 66-56 with 10:11 remaining in the game. Chicago State then went on a quick 12-3 run in a two-and-a-half minute stretch to slice its deficit to a point at 69-68 with 7:23 left after Simmons split a pair of free throws, but the visitors closed the game by scoring 18 of the final 31 points in the last 6:58 to seal the win.
