Women’s Basketball Continues WAC Road Swing at CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Chicago State women's basketball continued its three-game Western Athletic Conference road swing here today with a 63-49 loss to host CSU Bakersfield.
 
Both teams kicked off the first quarter with three lead changes and three ties before a 13-6 scoring drive gave the home team a 17-10 lead late in the stanza. CSUB then used a 20-12 run in the second quarter to increase its lead to 37-22 heading into halftime.
 
CSU rebounded in the third quarter by scoring 16 of the first 27 points of the second half in seven minutes to pull within 10 points at 48-38 with 2:50 left in the quarter following a three-pointer from redshirt senior Konnor Harris. The Roadrunners finished the second half by scoring 15 of the game's final 26 points between the third and fourth quarters for the final margin.

Redshirt sophomore Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain) recorded game highs of 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cougars while shooting 7-of-10 from the field. Freshman Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) added 14 points and connected on five of her 10 field-goal attempts, and Harris dished out a game-leading five assists.
 
CSU Bakersfield was led by Aja Williams as she tied with Mata Boix for game-high scoring honors with 15 points.
 
Chicago State closes its road swing on Jan. 27 with a WAC contest at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.
