Coen Scores First Collegiate Goal in CSU’s Final WAC Tuneup at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Sophomore Miranda Coen (Howell, Mich./Howell) scored her first collegiate goal here tonight as Chicago State women's soccer fell to host Valparaiso, 5-1, at Brown Field in its final tuneup before starting Western Athletic Conference play next week.
 
The Crusaders took a 5-0 advantage in the first half after scoring goals in the ninth, 16th, 17th, 33rd and 36th minutes.
 
CSU tallied its lone goal in the 59th minute when Coen hit the back of the net on a corner kick play with assists coming from sophomore Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) and senior Sara Marcotte (Republic, Mo./Republic). The Cougars held Valpo scoreless in the second half to post its third scoreless half of the season.
 
Rankin finished the game with three shot attempts that included two shots on goal to lead the Green and White. Junior goalkeeper Audra Wisehart (Sandusky, Ohio/Huron) posted her second straight double-digit save game as she recorded nine saves on the night.
 
The Green and White kick off WAC play on Friday, Oct. 6 at the Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium against defending conference champion Seattle with the start time set for 1 p.m.
