Stanberry, Alba Tally Goals as Cougars Fall to Indiana State in Return to Kroc

CHICAGO – Currently tied for the team's scoring lead, freshman Jensyn Stanberry (Grand Haven, Mich./Fruitport) and sophomore Mariela Alba (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) each recorded a goal as the Chicago State women's soccer team fell to visiting Indiana State, 6-2, today in its first home game at Ray and Joan Kroc Stadium in a month.

The game started out as a back and forth defensive affair between both teams until Stanberry scored the first goal in the 26th minute as she blasted a shot from 24 yards out after receiving a pass from junior Sierra Nixon (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) to give CSU a 1-0 lead. ISU then tallied goals in the 27th, 29th and 35th minutes to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Alba opened the second half with her second score of the season off an assist from freshman Emily McGuire (Norco, Calif./Bonita) in the 49th minute to pull the home team within 3-2, but the Sycamores added goals in the 53rd, 55th and 73rd minutes for the final margin.

Stanberry and sophomore Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich./Edsel Ford) each posted two shot attempts for the Green and White, while senior goalkeeper Gabby Klemp (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer) recorded eight saves.

The Cougars conclude their non-conference slate on Thursday, Sept. 28 with a road contest at Valparaiso with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
