Volleyball Defeats Grand Canyon in Four Sets to Even WAC Record at 1-1

Freshman Lacee Adams posted 47 assists, nine digs and three service aces in helping CSU defeat Grand Canyon in four sets.

CHICAGO – The Chicago State volleyball team evened its Western Athletic Conference record to 1-1 following today's 3-1 victory over visiting Grand Canyon at the Jacoby Dickens Center.

The Cougars (10-7, 1-1) opened the match with a 25-22 win in the first set then the visiting Antelopes evened the score at one set apiece by intermission thanks to a 25-17 win in the second stanza. The Green and White recorded a close 27-25 tally in the third set before capturing the fourth set and the match win by a 25-21 margin.

Both teams finished the match in deadlocked ties for kills (56-56) and blocks (11-11).

Freshman Lacee Adams (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) dished out a match-high 47 assists to lead CSU while also adding nine digs and three service aces. Sophomore Megan Klavitter (Fenton, Mich./Linden) recorded a match-leading 17 digs for the Green and White on the day.

Junior Carmen Carvajal (Lugo, Spain/I.E.S Lucus Augusti) posted a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs followed by fellow junior Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) and senior Paige Eyring (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) with 11 kills apiece. Freshman Summer Farris (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) tallied a season-best 10 kills and tied for match high honors with six blocks (three solo, three assisted.)

Grand Canyon (5-9, 0-2) was paced by Teagan DeFalco's match-leading 15 kills and 25 assists from Heidi Carpenter.

The Cougars conclude their seven-match homestand on Monday evening as they welcome Drake to the JDC in a non-conference contest beginning at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the match on the WAC Digital Network or listen live on the Chicago State Radio Network.
