This Week: Chicago State volleyball makes its home debut this weekend at the Jacoby Dickens Center with the five-team Chicago State Volleyball Invitational that runs all day tomorrow through Saturday afternoon. The other teams competing in the invitational with CSU are Eastern Michigan, Louisiana, Southeast Missouri State and Wright State.

Scouting CSU: CSU kicks off a seven-match homestand with a 7-4 season record following last Sunday's 3-0 defeat at inter-city rival UIC which snapped a six-match winning streak. The Green and White had claimed their first Division I in-season tournament title over last weekend by claiming the Eastern Illinois Panther Classic with victories over Western Illinois (3-1), Alabama A&M (3-0) and the host Panthers (3-2). Junior outside hitter Lauryn Dela Cruz (Provo, Utah/Timpview) is averaging a Western Athletic Conference-leading 4.40 kills and 4.10 digs per set for the Cougars.

Scouting EMU: Eastern Michigan comes to the Windy City sporting a 7-6 season record after falling to Fort Wayne in its home opener at the EMU Convocation Center on Tuesday night. Last weekend, the Eagles posted a 4-1 record at the Towson Tournament by posting wins against Quinnipiac (3-0), George Mason (3-0), Cal State Fullerton (3-1) and Lafayette (3-1) but dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Tigers. EMU is led by junior outside hitter Jordan Smith, who is averaging 2.90 kills a set with 20 service aces.

Scouting UL: Louisiana brings a 4-6 season record into this weekend's tournament after dropping all three of its matches last weekend at the Rice Adidas Invitational in Houston to California (1-3), Mississippi State (2-3) and the host Owls (0-3). Senior outside hitter Stacey Riley leads the Ragin' Cajuns with a team-best 2.86 kills a set while also sitting in a tie for the team lead in service aces with nine.

Scouting SEMO: Southeast Missouri State holds a 5-6 record on the young season, but has dropped its last five matches in a row after falling at rival Southern Illinois in five sets on Tuesday night. The Redhawks fell to Montana (2-3), Omaha (1-3) and host Drake (0-3) last weekend at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior outside hitter Krista Gearring is averaging 2.64 kills and 2.33 digs per set for SEMO.

Scouting WSU: Wright State enters the tournament with a 3-7 overall record after producing a 1-2 record at its own Holiday Inn Invitational last weekend. The Raiders recorded a 3-1 win over Tennessee Tech, but fell to Harvard (0-3) and West Virginia (1-3). Senior outside hitter Katie Klusman is currently averaging a team-high 3.24 kills to go along with 2.92 digs per set.

Let's Do It Again: Dela Cruz claimed her second WAC Player of the Week honors on Monday after averaging 4.65 kills and 3.65 digs per set last week in helping CSU post a 4-1 record and win the EIU Panther Classic. She also tallied five double-doubles during that stretch and earned all-tournament team honors at EIU.

Up Next: The Cougars open WAC play on Thursday, Sept. 21 when they welcome CSU Bakersfield with the first serve set for 7 p.m. on the WAC Digital Network.
